Born June 27th

2 males, 4 females

Mother is Josie.  She is a greyster from Sweden.  She is out of world champion Norwegian skijorer Yngve Hoel’s dog Spiro. She’s been a natural leader since day one, and led every race she was in her yearling year.  She also has a great personality, and has always lived in the house.

Father is Copper, he is a beautiful dog from John Perry’s bloodlines.

They will be best suited for sprints, skijoring or dryland events.

Email me for more info or for pictures.

Hello!  I just want to share my photos from your event from this past weekend.

You can find them here:   http://www.tpaz.net/mountmassivemush

There are galleries for Saturday (one) and Sunday (two).

The photos are all open for downloading to your own PC for your personal use.   (Just hover your mouse pointer over the upper left-hand side of the photo and choose the "Download Original" option.)

I have really enjoyed the experience and opportunity to practice photographing your event the past few years while I've been on assignment in Denver.  While I'm hoping to be back home in Florida fulltime before next winter, I'll miss seeing you all enjoying time with your dogs out on the trail.  It really looks like both mushers and dogs are having a lot of fun out on the trails.

Regards,
-tom

P.S.  They let the equestrian events in the Summer Olympics.   Why isn't your sport in the Winter games?   Seems like a natural to me.

A tie-out of braided rope, with two carabiners and an wooden, axe-handle quick release was left along the wooden rail fence at Mt. Massive golf course on Sunday afternoon. I asked Brad and Katie if the gear was theirs. I have it here with me. Contact me if you think  you left yours behind.  Wink

The 2010 Mt Massive Mush is just a week away.

New this year, we are planning dinner Saturday evening at the clubhouse. $12 lasagna meal, meat or vegetarian. All proceeds will go to the Mt Massive Golf Course, our low-budget County-owned facility that has supported the race from the beginning. A nice chance to avoid the winter carnival crowds at the restaurants in town and relax at the clubhouse with your fellow mushers!

The Shelter Dog Shuffle is at 1:30 Saturday afternoon. Bring a friend, an extra dog and your skis, snowshoes or whatever for this mass-start 1 mile fun run. $15 per entry. Fastest team with a dog(s) from the local shelter wins the big prize. 100% of your entry fees go to the Leadville/ Lake County Animal Shelter! (No dogsleds please, limit 2 dogs per person, no loose dogs, thanks!)

We have been working on the trail all week. There is 2 to 3+ feet of snow on the ground, and the trail is packing down nicely. Helmets are strongly recommended, there are lots of stout tree trunks right along the edges of the trail and the same sharp turns as always. Steph wanted to get some air this year, so we have added a few mandatory jumps in random places on the trail (kidding). The course is closed Thursday afternoon through Sunday afternoon, please respect our efforts to produce the best possible trail and event for everyone.

We have lined up 12 cash sponsors for a $1400 purse. Please support these fine local business whenever you are in Leadville!

Hope to see you there, and thanks for supporting the club!

Winter Park was a lot of fun!  The town was very hospitable to the mushers, and the race trail was fun and challenging!  I am looking forward to coming back next year, and thanks to Fritz and Brad of RMSDC, the Winter Park Chamber, and all the volunteers who made it all come together!

Here's the latest on Winter Park. Despite some good early fall storms,
this has been a low snow year so far in the Central Mountains. Even
though it's late January, we are still looking at partial "early
season" conditions at the race site.

Brad and I spent all day out on the trail yesterday. A full 16 foot
wide pass was made in the afternoon with the snowcat. After the cat
went through, this is what we saw: The snow is thin in some places.
There are a few small spots of dirt showing, a bit of dirty snow, and
some tall grasses poking through the surface here and there. The trail
is obvious, but there is no berm along the sides because there is not
enough snow to create one. The snow surface itself looks good, it is
firm and fast, and hookable in most places. About half of the trail,
the portion in the main meadow, looks great.

Overall, it is a pretty fun trail in unique and beautiful
surroundings, just be advised that we don't have a huge amount
of snow to work with, and we are doing our best to make this race
happen smoothly.

Colorado Avalanche Information Center forecast for the Winter Park
area: "A strong jet stream continues far to our south which is not
helpful for us and snowfall. It is inching northward during the week.
At this time things look a little better for Thursday night into
Friday, but again on a southwest flow favoring the southern zones (San
Juans)."

Looks like we have a healthy number of entries for the race. Come with
your party hats on, and thanks for your continued support of the club!

-Fritz Howard
